Moms Matter. You know I feel strongly about this.
Picture this:
You have a baby. Her name is Zoe. One evening, when she is a mere 6 weeks old, you notice she is listless. She won’t eat. You know something is wrong. You’re the mommy.
You rush Zoe to the hospital. The hospital takes her to a specialty Children’s hospital by ambulance. She nearly dies on the way there. You are told she has a virus. That virus has attacked her heart. The doctors work miracles. Zoe is sent home with the hope that her heart will outgrow the damage.
Just more than 6 years later, you learn otherwise. Zoe needs a heart transplant.
In December, Zoe got her new heart.
This is Chrissy’s story. She is a Mom Who Matters.

We received a beautiful letter from Chrissy’s sister, Nichole, nominating her for the WhyMomsMatter Project:
“While Chrissy is younger than me, she is so much stronger than I could ever be. She is brave and fearless, she doesn’t question the unknown or back down from it. She faces it head on with a smile and grace, even when she feels like breaking down.”
Though Zoe has a new heart, she is not out of the woods. She went home in January, but is currently back in the hospital fighting another virus.
Nichole told me a story that illustrates the kind of mother Chrissy is: On Halloween, before her transplant, Zoe became too weak to walk door to door, and yet, like most children she didn’t want the magic of the night to end. She wanted to continue trick-or-treating. Rather than taking her home, Chrissy pulled her 6 year old daughter on to her back and carried her from one home to the next.
Chrissy is the kind of mother who will carry the weight of her whole family when necessary.
In addition to Zoe, Chrissy has a just-turned 11 year old son, Gabriel. (Happy Belated Birthday, Gabriel) She has become an advocate for transplant children and has forged a network with other parents. You can learn more about Zoe’s journey at www.ZoesHeart.com.
“I sometimes have a hard time looking at my sister without crying, knowing the fear that’s been in her heart and the stress that she’s fought through. In so many ways, she is my hero and my best friend, even when she’s arguing with me. I want the world to know how she matters to me, to her children and to our family. Even when she feels the darkest, she manages to light a room and those around her.”
Why Moms Matter and ExtraordinaryMommy are thrilled to be highlighting Chrissy, her love of her family and everything she does that Matters.
