Free Delaney - A child’s punishment

So, the other day, my daughter, Delaney got herself into trouble.

She’s has been extraordinarily sassy lately, and quite honestly, my husband and I have had it.  We were exhausted by the disobedience, the second chances, the talking back.  So, as many parents before us have done, we sent her to her room.

She went.

But not peacefully.

From her room upstairs, I could hear the screaming, the wailing, the begging, the moaning.

Life is hard when you are five. Especially when you don’t get what you want.

What we didn’t initially consider is that Delaney’s window was open.  And she faces out to our cul-de-sac.  And everyone could hear her: ” I. Just. Neeeeeed.One.More.Chance.  Puhhhhleeeeezeeee.  I’m. Begging.You.”

The neighbors closest to us - who we adore - are long past this stage - their son is in high school.  So, they were entertained by the drama and decided to have a little fun.

I still can’t stop laughing.

Oh, that is so great. I love your neighbors! I can’t wait for the day when mine are old and I look at those families still in the trenches, and can do things like this too.

When I first saw the photo (before I read the story), I thought it was a sign advertising a Free Delaney. Like anyone can come take her for free because you were fed up with her. And I thought, “Wow. Danielle must have had a rough day. Too bad she thought of the free giveaway idea before me. I should try that with my kids!” And then I read the story. Shame on me, huh? :)

  7. THAT is fantastic!
Thank God for cool neighbors when you have loud, dramatic five year olds!

  8. That is hilarious. Love your neighbors! Sure makes those “rough” kids days a tad easier. I have a 5 yr old DD, Megan, so I get that drama.

  10. Oh that is hilarious! I have a 3.5 yr old and she is already in this stage. (help me when she is a teenager!) I always worry about her windows being open and people hearing her throw her major fits…so, I started following her up and closing them! LOL
