Thousand Word Thursday – Fruit of my Labor

Cheaper Than Therapy

My Thousand Word Thursday picture this week illustrates something that took me THOUSANDS of minutes to do!

As a wedding gift to my sweet friend, Erin, I made all of the paper products they needed – menus, place cards, programs and welcome gift inserts.  I spent the better past of last week in craft-mode, and then when we began the 13 hour drive to Jekyll Island in Georgia – I spent the first solid 8 hours tying ribbons and punching holes.

This, my friends, is the fruit of my labor.

Obviously the colors were taupe (that was the color of the BM dresses) and then that beautiful fuchsia – the color of our flowers!

Such an amazing, memorable event.

Thousand Word Thursday

delaney-7-8-months-047

I think this is how I will always see Delaney in my mind…this sweet, chubby little thing – sucking her thumb and clutching something close for comfort.  Since she was this little she has had a blanket or, in our family, a ‘bit’.  One of Delaney’s first words was ‘bit’ and it meant her favorite blanket then and still does.

We actually own 5 of the same ‘bit’ since I feared we might misplace one and be left ‘bitless’ and therefore helpless.

Today, my 4 and a 1/2 year old angel girl looked at me and said, “Mommy, I don’t need my bit anymore.  You can get rid of ALLLLLL of them!”  Clearly, I was surprised (devastated).  Is she really ‘old’ enough to have lost all need for her favorite item of comfort?

She seemed so sure.  No bit in the car.  No bit for most of the day.  And then, this afternoon…there it was, in all it’s dingy white glory, tucked neatly under her arm, accompanied by her other must-have comfort – her thumb.

I guess I don’t have to worry about her growing up to quickly.  Yet.

spelling mom

This picture will always speak volumes to me because it is the first moment Delaney sounded out a word and ‘spelled’ it on her own.  She is learning to read and it is such a magical process….I have a front row seat as her little brain recognizes letters, associates them with sounds and blends the different letters together to form words.

Forever and ever, I will know that her sweet little mind decided “Mom” was important to learn and spell.

I’m a pretty lucky girl, I think :)

Thousand Word Thursday – The “Look” to look for…

There is a little something I would like to see on Christmas morning – the look you see right there on Delaney’s face.  I want everything she sees, thinks, feels, and opens to inspire this look of awe!

Christmas is such a magical time….especially when you are blessed enough to see it through the eyes of children.  We had a beautiful visit with Santa this past weekend….and the kids just couldn’t get enough.
He was jolly, chatty and all-together one of the best we’ve seen.  They were mesmerized.

I wish I could hop into their little brains to see just what they are thinking….”Will he bring me The Littlest Pet Shop?”, “Where are his reindeer?”, “How does he fit down our chimney?”, “Did he like the cookies we left him last year?”, “That is one crazy, white beard.”, “This sleigh is pretty cool.”, “I don’t think I want him to hug me.” :)
