Dreams, Wishes and a Special Giveaway for Expectant Moms
Driving with my small dude tonight - he was sharing the dream he plans to have when he goes to sleep…
It involves him, a soccer ball, a break away, a BIG KICK and, naturally, a goal.
The small girl, of course, wanted to chime in with her big dream too….though, she claimed, she was a bit frustrated, because this dream is one she has been thinking about for A LONG TIME.
A BABY SISTER.
(Cue screeching tires.)
And to combat my attempts to reason with her…. ie: Mommy and Daddy are happy with our little family of four, she responds: BUT ALL OF MY FRIENDS HAVE LITTLE SISTERS.
While this effects my desire to have another child NOT AT ALL, she is right about one thing - there are lots of babies and soon-to-be-babies in our world - and, I will admit, it is just a little slice of heaven.
I simply adore anything that celebrates the joy of this time.
Not that long ago I received an email from an old friend - sharing news about a woman who was doing just that - finding the fun and celebrating the joy in pregnancy…. AND doing good in the world.
Sign of Labor is the brain child of Ingrid Moriarty - a photographer and mother. As an expectant mother, she wanted other drivers to know she was on the road with them. Her special touch behind the lens was to encourage women to see the beauty in this time. And when she was in labor, she most definitely was hoping she could get where she needed to be (and in time!)
The Sign of Labor decals and car flags are the result. The decals and car flags let other drivers know there is extra-precious cargo on board. Darling as a shower gift….perfect to remind women of the celebration of their pregnancy as an active time.
Naturally, the decals are not safety devices and are not intended to promote driving while in labor.
As if I wasn’t already drawn to Ingrid, as part of her company’s mission, she donates 5% of all proceeds to a non-political, non-profit organization that supports the awareness and improvement of pregnancy in the U.S. and around the world. Their June donation was made to the March of Dimes.

Valentine’s Day Hershey’s Chocolate Giveaway
One hundred years ago….one man decided to make a difference.
Milton Hershey was a candy man….but he never forgot where he came from, or just how much he valued what little education he received. It was shorty after 4th grade that he had to leave school in order to help support his family. After tasting failure not once, but twice - Hershey succeeded with the special concoctions we now know as Hershey’s candy.
With success finally realized, he founded the Hershey Industrial School - which was later renamed for its namesake in 1951 - the Milton Hershey School. This school, according to its website, is “the nation’s largest cost-free, private, coeducational home and school for children of families of low-income, limited resources and social need.”
More than 1800 students, from Kindergarten to 12th grade call the Milton Hershey School their educational home. And these students don’t forget the gift they have been given - they are choosing to make a difference in their own communities - a recent poll of alumni indicated that 80% volunteer and collectively, they donate more than $10 million annually to local charities.
Little did you know, that you are helping these students every single time you buy a Hershey’s Chocolate bar. In honor of the 100 year anniversary of the school - you can now note a ‘thank you’ on the back of the traditional Hershey’s bar.
Hershey’s chocolate is a weakness of mine.
I keep the traditional Hershey’s chocolate bars hidden around my home so I always have a little available at a moment’s notice - because sometime…..I just need a little. (Don’t tell my family)
If you would like us to send you a Hershey’s Chocolate bar - enter a comment below - telling us at least ONE thing you have done lately to make a difference for someone else.
How fun to combine a Make a Difference Monday post with a Hershey’s Giveaway!

Mark Your Holidays - With a Sharpie (Giveaway too!)
If you read my blog, you likely know a few things about me:
1) My husband is F-U-N-N-Y.
2) I call my children ’small people’ - because they are. They drive me absolutely batty. And I adore them.
3) I live in the Midwest, but still believe California and all things beach-related are my true ‘home’.
4) I like video, um….a lot.
5) I love to eat, drink wine, play with my small people, work until 3am (it is so quiet!), give gifts and talk to my friends.
However - as much as it pains me - I cannot sing. And I am not crafty.
EXCEPT. EXCEPT when I have a Sharpie in my hands. You think I am silly? Or maybe exaggerating a touch?
Perception is reality my friends. And the small people will tell you the same thing.
I dangled this beauty in front of them - with the promise of decorating some Christmas ornaments and the following hour went a little something like this:
3:45 (Moments after the wide eyed squeal of joy that accompanied the first viewing of said Sharpie Ornament) “Mommy, can we decorate the ornaments now?”
“we’ll do it in just a little while, honey.”
3:48 “Mommy, are you ready now?” ”Sweetheart, I need you to hang on a bit.”
3:51 “Moooooommmmyyyyy….can we puuuhhhhlllleeeezzzeee decorate the ornaments now? And can I choose my favorite marker?”
Ok - I won’t punish you with the rest of our dialogue - it was painful enough the first time.
But….all the pain evaporated as we refocused our energies on the holiday task in front of us.
We chose reds and greens…..browns and yellows…..and we colored. And colored. And colored.
Pure crafty bliss - even for the traditionally un-crafty.
And the result….impressive. To us.
If you would like the opportunity to win a craft-inspiring super Sharpie Ornament, enter here….I’m excited to be giving one away. In the comments - tell me a) about your love-affair with Sharpies OR b) what type of craft you might be inspired to concoct with this Sharpie collection.
This contest will run until December 14, 2009.
