I am proud of my friend’s giving heart

I have a friend who came up with a wonderful idea.  She collected toys (mainly old McDonald’s toys) from all of her friends (lucky me included) to send to US troops in Iraq.  She stays in touch with one of her brother’s classmates from West Point.  When she offered to send him a care package…he requested these toys instead.  He and other troops passed out the toys to many imporverished Iraqi children.

My friend, Elizabeth, has done such a beautiful thing and touched the lives of so many children she will never know…just by indulging her generous spirit.  Her brother’s classmate recently sent her photos of the toys being passed out….she turned the photos into a video and posted it on her blog.

It is beautiful. Check it out!

How’s this for Karma?

Ha!  By now you all know how I feel about my husband’s current work (joke’s on me) trip.

The good news is:  the voo-doo doll I created in his image is working.  Here’s the proof:

1) His ‘video phone’ (are you serious?)  went off at 3am…..I loved his reinactment.  Lots of loud static noise that he couldn’t get turned off.  When he tried to reach the front desk they didn’t answer (they got my note about ignoring all calls from his room).  It went off for 20 minutes until he unplugged it, but then he was afraid he wouldn’t get his wake up call.  It started up again as soon as he plugged it back in. (that was me playing loud noises in the voo-doo doll’s ear)  It finally stopped on its own (I got bored and decided to let him go back to sleep.

2) He was up at 5:30 am this morning to go for a run (on the beach…whatever!)  He decided to iron his pants first.  As soon as the iron touched his pants they burned an iron shaped hole right through the fabric!  I’ll post a pic as soon as he gets back.  He’s saving them for me to see.

3) When he came bsck from his run, there were 5 hotel employees in his room (at 6:05am) working on the video phone (again….what the???) and staring (probably laughing) at the hole in his pants (they did offer to replace them).  By the time he got them out of the room, he only had 15 minutes to shower and get down for breakfast.  Despite the cold shower, he was still sweating. (karma.  hah!)

Thank you, dear blog friends, for joining me in sending him good wishes (hurricanes and such).

I so appreciate your support.

Color my day blue/brown

Ever have one of those days?  You know, the kind where even the beautiful weather doesn’t seem to lift your mood?  Dr. Suess has a book called, “My Many Colored Days”.  By his definition, I’m actually have a brown day (that’s the crabby kind) But I think calling it a blue day as well fits.

It started yesterday. (So I guess it is actually ’2 of those days’) I keep waiting to feel myself being lifted out (and heaven knows I have wonderful people in my life who have tried) but, so far it isn’t passing.

I have had moments of joy – watching the kids run and jump and play outside for the first time in what feels like a million years.  Having great chats with old friends…and with new ones.  The very fact that it is in the 70′s outside is divine.  But, when I’m alone, I go right back to feeling irritable and crabby.

I think I can safely say that the source of my crabbiness comes down to two words: entitlement and inconsideration.  I am highly offended by both.  And when these traits manifest in people I care about or worse, when people I care about actually possess these traits but have been masquerading as kind, considerate people, I am turned a little topsy-turvy.

I am blessed to have friends who remind me to ‘Let them be’…and to remember that I can not ‘measure others by my yardstick’.

Here’s hoping for a bright red evening and a hot pink tomorrow!
