The sweetest thing

This is what I overheard as I was rounding out the end of my day:

Daddy: “Delaney, can I tell you something?”

Delaney: “Yeah….”

Daddy: “A few years ago, I said a prayer to God.  I asked him to send me a special gift….a little girl, just like you.”

Delaney:  “You did?”

Daddy: “Yes…and you know what?”

Delaney: (Leaning closer and whispering) “What?”

Daddy: “He did.  He answered my prayers.  I couldn’t have been given a more perfect little girl.  I am so proud of you and love you so much.”

Delaney: “I love you too, Daddy.”

Eavesdrop much?  Yes, I do.

Daddy’s Boy

This picture ALMOST makes me cry.  Coop looks like such a little man!  He so desperately wants to be just like his daddy.  Tonight, Jeff took Coop to his 2nd Daddy/Son Cardinals game.  Neither of them could stop grinning.

“Daddy, go bay-baw-game”  Coop must have said it 25 thousand times before they left.  Both suited up in their Pujols jerseys.  Coop, glove in hand…Daddy, hand in hand with his little man.

And when they got home…Coop was asleep in the car…with his glove still on his hand.  Apparently he was a Daddy’s dream at the game.  He watched, he cheered and he can’t wait to go again.

It takes someone special to be a dad

“Any man can be a father…it takes someone special to be a DAD.” ~Anonymous

We definitely have someone special in our midst……

My husband would rather spend time with his children than do just about anything.  Mini and Coop have late bedtimes just so daddy can spend more time with them.  He volunteers to do bathtime (alone!!), he is almost as fast as I am into a crying baby’s room at night, he never hesitates to ‘hold me, Daddy”, he tears up when watching his kiddos play together and he keeps a running list of all the things he wants to do with them and teach them.

I fell in love with him years ago….but it is not only his sense of humor, his love and his good looks that get me…it is definitely the ‘daddy’ in him that reminds me everyday that I couldn’t have married a better man.

Happy Father’s Day!

I just fell in love again

cimg2481.jpg

This is the man I married.  I loved him when I said ‘I do’.  He sweeps me off my feet and makes me giggle like a little girl.  He is a hard worker, a wonderful husband and a best friend.

But, I don’t think there is anything that makes me love my husband more than watching him shine as the amazing daddy he is to Cooper and Delaney every day.

Some days, like today, I am struck by the love he so clearly demonstrates for them, and for me. To give me a little peace, Daddy took both kids out to play.  And at this very moment, Daddy and Cooper are snuggled on the couch together.  When Coop lays his little blond head on Jeff’s chest, a part of me melts.

There is nothing better than a man who puts his family first.  Nothing better than a man who plays and snuggles, bathes and kisses boo-boos.

I am one lucky girl.

Daddy’s home

Is there anything better than seeing the love between your children and your spouse?

My husband got home on Friday night after seeing the kids for a mere 2 hours in 10 days.  He burst in like he’d been away for years….and you’d have thought the kids felt the same way.

They ran at him as fast as thier little feet would take them.  His open arms wrapped them tight.  I couldn’t help tearing up as he lifted them both up and spun around.  Their shared laughter is what joy sounds like.

We are blessed  that our time away from each other is minimal.

I am blessed to be able to taste the love between my children and my husband.  I am amazed to realize I can love all three of them more every day.  There is nothing more attractive to me than a man who loves his children.  He is an Extraordinary Daddy.

The best sound in the world

There are a lot of sounds I like….sounds that evoke emotion or take me to a specific memory…the roar of the ocean, church bells, a college football team taking the field for a game, the music that starts the Today Show, my husband’s laugh, strong wind, most music, marching bands, the National Anthem, the crack of the bat.

But, by far, the very BEST sound in the world: my children laughing.  I’m not talking about a quick laugh, a snort or even a little giggle.  I mean that deep belly laugh. You know the one that starts in their toes.  You can actually feel it moving through their little bodies…and when it erupts from their mouths, you can’t help but laugh along.  It is the sound of pure joy.

This noise, this belly laugh, this sound of pure joy, it is the soundtrack to my soul.  If it was the only thing I heard for the rest of my life, it would be enough.  I am smiling right now just thinking about them.

And the best part is…that laugh is so easy to come by.  I spend hours of my day trying to get them into their best giggle box state, but the truth is, it is so simple.  They belly laugh when I tickle them.  They belly laugh when I make faces at them, or when they make faces at each other.  They belly laugh when we all sing together.  They belly laugh when I ask for kisses and hugs.  They belly laugh when I mimic them. They REALLY belly laugh when Daddy plays with them.

I have a quiet laugh.  I have always been envious of people with big, loud, confident laughs.  I think I’m going to work on that.  I’ll focus on the pure joy of childhood and see if I can’t find my big laugh.
