Smile Like You Mean It…..

I am always smiling.  And by always, I do, in fact, mean ALWAYS.

I figure 3 years of braces plus a year of the sexiest neck-gear you have ever seen mean that I have earned the right to flash a smile  every single chance I get.

And I don’t mind telling you that I consider a smile the best asset you have… the best asset I HAVE.  Not because I have an Academy Award winning smile like Julia Roberts, but because it has always made me feel strong, confident and powerful.  When I smile – I let you know I am in charge of my attitude.  I’m CHOOSING to be happy, to invite you in, to tell you, without a word, that I think things are good. And those things ALL combine to make me feel more confident.

As a kid, I didn’t have the fanciest clothes, the designer backpacks, the latest accessories – but I did have a smile.  And I meant it when I used it.  I still do.

Sure, there are lots of things I do to instill self confidence – I’m honest enough to admit vanity plays a role  in my decision to wear make up, get my hair done, exercise (not often enough) and drink water. ( I certainly don’t do it for the taste).  But putting on my smile?  It is the easiest decision I make, the one thing I know I can do at the last minute to make myself feel ready to face the world.

Smiling Makes It Better – New Bliss TV Episode + Invisalign Giveaway!

Insecurity may well have been my middle name when I was in middle school and high school. For those current High School Facebook friends stopping by – the picture you see here definitely looks like the ‘Danielle’ you knew then – certainly not the ‘me’ I see in the mirror now, but it doesn’t take much to remember how it felt to have BAD teeth, BIG HAIR and well, the shoulder pads and the polka dots?  I have no excuse.  And in that picture?

OH THE BRACES!!

I simply had no other options.  My teeth were a mess.  Not to mention, one of my front teeth had been knocked out in a ‘I-can’t-believe-the-bar-just-collapsed-gymnastics-accident’…. my temporary tooth was not pretty.  So my smile? Even WITH braces? Not pretty.  And yet, there I am – all of 13 years old – smiling.

But  after the braces came off….  when my teeth were fixed?  I simply. couldn’t. stop. smiling.  My teeth were smooth.  They were together – and nothing to be self conscious about.

I am a smiler.  At anyone.  At everyone.  At you…And you.  It is in my nature.  I think smiling brings us together, brightens our days and encourages us to be kinder and gentler with each other.

Smiling is important.  It is the self-confidence builder I intend to instill in my children.  I’m delighted to share our latest episode of BlissTV – where we talk about just this: self confidence, your smile and our kids. (You remember to stick around for the outtakes, right?)
