What is my story? Who am I? And WHY do I do what I do?
As I prepared my submission for Project MomCasting, an in-progess TV series based on Online Moms, I found myself wandering the house talking to myself out loud. What do I stand for? What is my journey? Am I happy?
The video submission can only be one minute….so, clearly, I can’t give in depth answers, but I am enjoying the mental Olympics….
And the most resounding answer I heard, “YES, I AM HAPPY.” I am thrilled by the journey, the evolution, the process of being a mom, of being a blogger, of being a vlogger, of being present online. And that really says something, doesn’t it?
First I became a mother.
Then there was this:
So I changed paths. I chose to live and work with purpose.
It may sound trite, but I wanted to ‘make a difference’. In so many ways, I am ‘ordinary’ – I yell at my kids, I forget appointments, I want to eat healthy and exercise all the time, but can’t always get it done, I sometimes want to stay in bed all day, I worry about my children, my husband, my parents….I want to be a better mother, wife, friend, daughter…and sometimes fail miserably. I cry, laugh, fight and experience joy just like you. I battle fibromyalgia, but rarely talk about it.
In all of this ‘ordinary’ – the same that so many other mothers experience – there is extraordinary to be found. I wanted to remind moms of that extraordinary: of the little moments, of the ‘did-not’s‘, of the beauty in the challenges, of the joy of knowing they aren’t alone. And I wanted to share opportunities for moms to ‘give good, get good’ as they taught their small people.
This journey has included highlighting teachers and doing interviews about programs like donorschoose.org, raising money to fight child hunger, thanking moms, raising awareness about amazing non-profits like Operation Shower and simply sharing small ways parents can teach ‘making a difference’ and gratitude.
I use video. All the time. Why? Because it connects people, because it allows me to ‘be me’ – I’m a better talker than a writer. And because I think STORIES are important. (I shared my story-telling vision with you a few weeks ago – so I think it just might be Karmic that Project MomCasting feels the way I do about the question: What’s Your Story?)
That’s my story.
What do you think?
So, this is my submission for Project MomCasting. If you would like to be considered, visit the Project MomCasting Facebook Fan Page for details (but do it quick – today is the last day to enter!)
