Makeup Tutorial: The Three Eyebrow Mistakes You’re (Probably) Making and Why They Matter

About a month ago, I was visiting my parents and doing a makeup tutorial with my mom. Did you know the facial feature that we neglect most often isn’t our eyes, or our lips (you can hardly miss those) but rather our eyebrows? It seems that this feature is just too easy to skip, ignore or mismanage all-together.

But they matter.

Makeup Tutorial - Eyebrow Mistakes You Need to Fix

Why? Consider them the framework for your face – especially for your eyes. Poorly done (or neglected) eyebrows can throw everything off, I promise.  On the other hand, follow a few simple steps and you set yourself up beautifully.

As is always the case, a makeup tutorial is so much fun to SHOW, right? Take a look at the video and let me know what you think.

All of the tools I use in this video were purchased at Sephora (a favorite of mine, but without any official connection to the site).

Do you have any additional makeup tips you’d like to share? They can be eyebrow related or otherwise. Feel free to chime in and share.

Great video! I’m a notorious over plucker and I have VERY fair skin and eyebrow hair so I can relate to some of this tips. I also had the unfortuante experience of a terrible wax job that made my brows to thin and so filling in is very important. Great tips!

Thank you so much, my friend. I swear I had been ignoring them forever when a makeup artist explained to me just how important this little steps can be…. and then I SAW the difference. Now? Always do them.

Danielle! Brilliant! Thank yo so much for this. I am fortunate to have a great lady that waxes my eyebrows, but I don’t pay as much attention to them in between waxing as I should.

Emily – you are so kind – thank you so very much for that! I love the lady who waxes my brows too (but, age!!) so I was so grateful to get the makeup tips that help with the rest :)

I am SO an eyebrow neglector lol! I never learned to wear makeup as a teen and now I’m just a hot mess! Thanks for this video, super helpful for folks like me that need help figuring out what the heck to do with makeup!

    Hi Danielle,
Just found your blog, and am impressed. I have watched this video twice now, but I don’t get how you are determining where to start and stop your browline. You seem to be just willy nilly placing your pencil next to your nose, and then saying “see how it’s not starting sooner/long enough?” It doesn’t make sense. You could just as easily move that pencil in any direction (like towards your ear) yet you sure don’t want the line going to your ear, LOL!

How do you know WHERE to put your pencil??? and, to follow that same rule, once you figure out where to place the pencil line, are you following the inside of the pencil, or the outside? That pencil is a good 1/4 – 3/8 inches thick, so that’s a big difference when it comes to adding your brow length. Sorry to be a pain, but as I said, after watching this twice now, I just don’t understand how you innately know where to put the pencil in order to follow it, and I think THAT’S the point of your tutorial, no?
