Once in a Blue Moon – Book Review and Giveaway

Once in a Blue Moon, I read a book I can’t put down.

Once in a Blue Moon, I am so wrapped up in the characters, I forget the time, I burn dinner and I pretend I have to go to the bathroom.

Once in a Blue Moon, I find myself repeating written words out loud just to hear how they sound rolling off my tongue.

onceinabluemoonOnce in a Blue Moon, by Eileen Goudge is that book for me.

Not a stranger to being published, this is Goudge’s 13th ‘women’s fiction’ novel. She has also authored 32 young adult novels, a cookbook and numerous short stories and magazine articles.

The story centers on two women, ripped from the only home they knew when their mother is jailed for drugs.  Lindsay, the oldest, is adopted into a loving home, while her younger sister, Kerrie Ann, is bounced from one unloving foster care situation to another.

When Kerrie Ann makes a series of bad decisions that result in her losing her own daughter, she tracks Lindsay down for help and support.  The sisters slowly navigate the uneven landscape of ‘family’ – learning about each other and themselves in the process.

When the One 2 One Network offered me the chance to review this book, they compared Goudge to one of my favorite authors, Jodi Picoult.  This is a fair comparison.  Like Picoult, Goudge deftly conveys the point of view of each character.  You, the reader, side with first Lindsay, and then with Kerrie Ann and back again.

The book combines family drama and romance with second chances. By the middle of the story, the pages seem to turn themselves.

Because I love to read, and I know you do too, I am thrilled to be doing a giveaway of both Once in a Blue Moon and Woman in Red, another of Goudge’s Best Sellers.

One of my all time favorites is My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult, have never been able to get the story off my mind. Opted not to see the movie because I knew it was different in some ways and wasn’t as good as the book. Would love to win these books, already a follower of your blog…will tweet this right now :)

I just finished reading “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have a big yellow lab and I am a Nascar fan so that’s why I chose the book to start with (yes, I actually bought it.) But the story, as told from the dog’s point of view, would be a good read for most people as it is about his family and their relationships.

Yes, My Darling Daughter by Margaret Leroy was an excellent book. If you haven’t read it, you should. I was hesitant at first because it was an Oprah pick and her books tend to be downers but it really was about a mother’s love. Good read.

I love Lisa Jackson! HOWEVER, I totally hated Left to Die and I REFUSE to read the “sequel”, which is something-else “to Die”. It looks like she had a contract to write xxx number of pages and she just stopped the book when she got there, despite the fact that the serial killer had just nabbed one of the main characters. I was SOOOOO mad!!
