Mark Your Holidays – With a Sharpie (Giveaway too!)

If you read my blog, you likely know a few things about me:

1) My husband is F-U-N-N-Y.

2) I call my children ‘small people’ – because they are.  They drive me absolutely batty.  And I adore them.

3) I live in the Midwest, but still believe California and all things beach-related are my true ‘home’.

4) I like video, um….a lot.

5) I love to eat, drink wine, play with my small people, work until 3am (it is so quiet!), give gifts and talk to my friends.

However – as much as it pains me – I cannot sing. And I am not crafty.

EXCEPT.  EXCEPT when I have a Sharpie in my hands. You think I am silly?  Or maybe exaggerating a touch?

Perception is reality my friends.  And the small people will tell you the same thing.

I dangled this beauty in front of them – with the promise of decorating some Christmas ornaments and the following hour went a little something like this:

sharpie1

3:45 (Moments after the wide eyed squeal of joy that accompanied the first viewing of said Sharpie Ornament) “Mommy, can we decorate the ornaments now?”

“we’ll do it in just a little while, honey.”

3:48 “Mommy, are you ready now?”  ”Sweetheart, I need you to hang on a bit.”

3:51 “Moooooommmmyyyyy….can we puuuhhhhlllleeeezzzeee decorate the ornaments now?  And can I choose my favorite marker?”

Ok – I won’t punish you with the rest of our dialogue – it was painful enough the first time.

But….all the pain evaporated as we refocused our energies on the holiday task in front of us.

sharpie2

We chose reds and greens…..browns and yellows…..and we colored.  And colored.  And colored.

sharpie3sharpie4

Pure crafty bliss – even for the traditionally un-crafty.

And the result….impressive.  To us.

I love the smell of Sharpies. I don’t huff them or anything :) The scent just reminds me of my childhood.

  • Krista

Sharpies are easily the key to staying organized in my personal and professional life. At home, everyone has a different color sharpie, to write things on the calendar. At work, everything is color coded as well. I love Sharpie! The new Sharpie pens are THE BEST… I especially like the “clicky” Sharpies… although it is impossible to find those in any color but black!

I have recently become at at home mom to my 2 year old daughter. I wanted to make sure that she and I do plenty of fun things together. We are gathering materials to hand make Christmas cards (money is tight this year). Sharpies are wonderful to outline fun things for her to color in! Art!

I love to mark my mentally and physically handicapped sisters clothes, food and anything else we buy her making it pretty for her and no one can steal from her if her name and our designs are on them. Also my grandsons love to do their ARTIST work on everything! We sit at their art table and make such awesome things for my frigde or for their mommies and daddy’s! Sharpies…thats how we roll!

  • Beth

My mom would never let us kids play with Sharpies when we were little. She’d say “They’re permanent,” and force us to use the dull washable markers. Now that I have kids of my own and I’m the grown-up, my kids are SO going to play with Sharpies. I don’t care if they’re little fingers are speckled for weeks.

I would love to make our own Christmas ornaments, cards, and we can buy plain white ribbon or white wrapping paper and personalize each persons gift! Our Christmas Tree and surrounding gifts will look like a craft show!

  • Ashley Elaine

I work with Autistic children so I would have them decorate signs to hang up in our office.

  • Jill Myrick

We will be hosting Christmas for our families in our home this year.
My children would love to make some banners and extra decorations.
And these would be so perfect for that.

Thank you so much for the chance to win.

    I LOVE SHARPIES.

I have used them to make little cool trivets with extra white ceramic tile (We over purchased for a home improvement project – WHOOPS). The girls colored with Sharpies on the tiles. VERY cute.

Also I have a somewhat major Sharpie addiction. It’s pretty legendary.

  • Diane Baum

Wow-This would be great for my students to decorate some beautiful holiday English cards.

  • Lauralee Hensley

I love the fine tip sharpies for added very tiny details to acrylic paintings I do. Like eyelashes, or the pupil in a very small eye. It’s hard for a beginning painter to get the tiniest details right with a paint brush at times and sharpies work perfectly for such times if using acrylic paints.

  • Carrie

My husband and I love Sharpies. We mark everything from lunches to the dog’s food to stuff we Freecycle to… you name it. We bought a pack of multi-colored Sharpies at a going-out-of-business office supply store we found some in a clearance-clearance bin. We thought we won the lottery! When we got home, half of them had dried out (they were obviously VERY old) and you would’ve though we were at a funeral! I think I actually cried. Dorks? Yes. :)

  • cathiem

I mark all my calenders with Sharpies.

  • Kelly

I seriously love Sharpies. When they came out with fine-tip Sharpie pens in all different colors, I was a changed woman. I use them for absolutely everything. I’ve got them on my desk at work, in my bedside table, on the kitchen table… love, love, love.

I think I’d have to buy some blank labels and draw my own Christmas tags this year if I won that many Sharpies!! :)

  • Karen M

I love Sharpie’s. We have them in almost every room. I love color and admit to buying the Sharpie multi-packs and also the mini-Sharpie’s at the cashier when I’m at the office supply stores. I might try decorating ornaments with my grandkids this year. I enjoyed your description and photos. Thanks.

  • Rita M

Sharpies are perfect for card making!

  • brittney

I use sharpies to color code my calendar. It’s useful for telling each person apart.

  • Monique Rizzo

  • Pat

What a great contest. I like Sharpies because I can write checks and address envelopes with them and be sure that even is the postal carrier picks my mail up in the rain the checks and envelopes will get to their destination because the Sharpie ink won’t smudge or run.

Thank you for the contest. Happy holidays.

I LOVE sharpies. I bought 5 sets and gave away as gift to my extended families in Europe. They love it. Now they use Sharpies to make handmade cards and send it to me. :)

Love me some sharpies! I really like them for christmas cards because they don’t smear! I use them often for gifts tags, addressing packages and other art projects around the house. Even used a black on to fix a frame!

  • Denise B.

I’ve used these to decorate plain white ceramics.

  • Sarah

I LOVE Sharpies. I’m pretty sure that if that ornament arrived at my house *I* would have the same reaction as your daughter. There would be squealing and perhaps some jumping up and down. My only problem is that I hate to “waste” my Sharpies. If they are sitting on my desk looking all pretty they will be forever, if I use them one might dry up. So I’m sparing. I write out Christmas Cards with them, always. And label gift tags. The Sharpie blog had some great ideas for projects, so I have vowed to take them out and use them more this season!

  • angelo

    very nice idea.

  • Emmi

I would use the sharpies for making handmade holiday cards

  • Victoria

I have a serious weakness for sharpies since I was in college and used to decorate ice chests for tailgates. Anytime I see them, I buy them. I don’t have many of the bright colors in your picture and it would MAKE MY DAY to receive them!

  • Emily R.

I LOVE Sharpies! I use them every morning to label my son’s lunch. Also, we use Sharpies to decorate onesies at baby showers. It’s a game and a nice gift for the new mommy:)

For my daughter’s senior project her plan is to sharpie her best friends car. Plain white, putting flames and skulls all over it for him. …this idea would require A LOT of sharpies… ;-)

  • Michelle

I use sharpies every day. I am a teacher so I am constantly making charts, word wall cards, art projects, and various other things with my sharpies. Unfortunately being a teacher in a poorer school district I have to buy all my own supplies so this giveaway would be perfect. Thanks.

  • Lee

I would love to be able to make some homemade gift tags and Christmas cards. My girls would be ecstatic to receive these. They are big-time picture drawer and card-maker. Decorating the ornaments looks fun too. Thanks.
