"Living Well for Less" - The Mommysavers Motto

The letter came after the first of the year. It was a thank you. A young mom wanted to tell Kimberly Danger that she was grateful. Because of the work Kimberly has dedicated herself to, this mother was able to buy her daughter Christmas gifts this past year.

“It's messages like that that inspire me to keep on doing what I'm doing,” explains Danger, the founder of Mommysavers.com. To keep on balancing family life with work. To get up between 5am and 6am to answer emails before her children are awake. To continue to research the best ways for Moms all over the world to budget, get out of debt and save money.

It started 8 years ago as a personal mission. As a brand new mom, Kimberly was at home on maternity leave and doing her best to save a little money.

She found dozens of tips on cutting back and saving, as well as ways to earn a little extra cash on the side. But all of the best information was spread out. Danger decided to create a place where frugal moms could find everything they needed. Mommysavers.com was born.

The idea has taken off. And Kimberly couldn't be happier. When describing what is most rewarding for her, she says “Helping moms realize that saving money is liberating, not restricting. Unfortunately, a lot of people look at a budget like it's a prison sentence when in actuality, it will provide financial freedom. I love it when moms who come to the site have those light bulb moments where you know it's finally clicking with them.”

And ‘clicking' is exactly what is happening on MommySavers.com. The site has over 15,000 registered users on their forums. Kim says about 3,000 post regularly. From a simple beginning, a site with about 20 pages, Mommysavers now gets more than 3 million hits a month.

For Kim, “being a mom always comes first. I schedule my own work around their (her 8 year old daughter and 4 year old son's) activities. I love that I can be on TV one week and the next week, I'm at home in my sweats with the kids, but I couldn't do it without a great support network of friends, family and babysitters.”

Mommysavers.com is comprehensive. There are coupon codes, tips for bargain hunting, suggestions on how to live on a single income, frugal decorating ideas, and so many more ways to tackle your own personal finances.

In fact, as I decided to begin my own personal journey into money saving, I found myself a little overwhelmed by all of the options. I wasn't quite sure where to start. Kim solved that problem for me in no time. “I always suggest a 21-day spending freeze to jump start any savings plan. It really helps open your eyes to how much of your spending is unnecessary and impulsive.”

And when you are looking for which area of your life to tackle first, think about your groceries. Kim explains, “Aside from your mortgage and car payment, it's typically your biggest expense. I recommend clipping coupons, planning your meals according to what's on sale at the supermarket, stocking up when things are on sale and shopping in out of the way places like Aldi or even the Dollar Store.”

You may also want to consider doing a little Spring cleaning. Kim says purging and saving money are connected. “In America we have an odd relationship with our things. We seem to be under the impression that having more is better. Purging helps us to realize that we are not our things. Clearing the clutter can not only help break you from materialism, but create room in your life for new experiences.”

Kim recommends heading to Mommysavers.com to learn about the ‘Forget About the Joneses' project. It is a 100 step plan to save money and simplify your life.

This is a challenge I am taking. You can learn more about ExtraordinaryMommy's involvement at the bottom of this page.

Kim's success has continued to expand. She won't let you call her an ‘overnight success' since it has taken 8 years to reach this stage in her life. “It has been an evolving process for me. Each project I have taken on has built my resume and taken the Mommysavers concept to the next level.”

That resume now includes numerous TV news appearances all around the country, being a featured columnist for Organize Magazine and writing books, the latest of which will be released this Spring: The Big Book of Baby Bargains.

Head to Mommysavers.com to begin ‘living well for less'.

I have always wanted to consider myself a 'saver'. Alas, my husband gets that title in our family. I'm aiming to join him. April 5 th was the first day of my 21 day spending freeze. Help me to be accountable by checking up on me. I'm going to ‘Forget About the Joneses' and tackle the many steps to complete financial freedom. Read my blog here. Tell me what you think. Better yet, join in and start saving on your own. We'd love to hear about it!
