Potty Training SUCCESS!

It feels like a miracle.

A small one, at least.  And one that only a mother who has actually gone through it can appreciate.

Cooper is officially Potty Trained.

{cue marching band music, picture me jumping from the couch to the table with unabashed enthusiasm}

You may remember Delaney tried to teach him.  That almost worked. But not quite.

Then we had some success.  He would pee on the potty.  But that other stuff? Notsomuch.

I made the mistake of putting a pull-up on him to avoid pants full of poop while we were out and about (and no where near a potty). Sooooo…..he figured that was the way to go. For the past few weeks, he’s even been getting the pull-up and putting it on himself when he needed to go.

A twitter friend, Jill, sent me one of her Potty Tots kits to kick start the process.  Both the small people LOVED the DVD (it also comes with a darling potty chart and stickers!) and can’t stop singing the song.  I finally had to tell them we couldn’t watch it again until Coop was fully trained.

I was afraid it might never happen.

But on Friday, something tipped.  He was walking on his tip-toes. He was scared. He was sweating. He even screamed like he was losing a little piece of himself.  But eventually he couldn’t hold it any longer.

He pooped on the potty.  All by himself.

So we celebrated.  He told everyone he saw.  And then he did it again. And again.  And again.

So, tonight - we said a formal adios to that little potty.

We packed up the pack n’ play. (which we used as a changing table)

And my little guy turned into a big kid - just. like. that.

This day seems so far away but I am so ready for it. I mean I know I will still be wiping butt but one thing at a time I suppose!

Oh, I’m gonna need that little potty kit myself soon! Jackson and I have been reading “Once Upon a Potty” and he talks about it a lot. But so far, he is not interested in trying. I know we’re early anyway. But I can foresee a day in the near future when we’ll have to buckle down and hit it hard!

And how rude of me. I didn’t even say congrats to Coop or to you! What an exciting milestone! :)
What will you do without your green diaper bag now? You’ll get to carry a REAL purse! I’m envious.

  4. WAY TO GO COOP!!!! maybe you could come to our house and show Anne how to do it. LOL LOL Hopefully I will be posting soon that my Anne is right there with ya!

  5. Hey! That is exciting.

Whoo-HOO! The tip-toes, screaming, etc. reminds me of our first. He would run around the house holding his bum with his hands, screaming red-faced because he knew he wasn’t supposed to poop in the pull-up, but he was scared to death of going on the toilet. Finally, one day I caught him right as he was about to explode, yanked his pants down and plopped him on the potty just in time. And that was that. No further issue.

Our second’s been a Big Boy for a little over a month now. He still has an occasional over-night accident, but what a thrill to not have diapers to change! …At least for a few more weeks until our #3 arrives.

Anyhow, congrats to you and Coop! Enjoy life without the diaper bag!

  7. This is WONDERFUL news.

I am so excited and can I say jealous in a good way? As we keep having to buy TWO packs of diapers each week and we near AJ’s 3rd birthday I am trying to figure out an incentive to encourage the potty - he just plain has very little and close to NO INTEREST in this thing we call a potty! I see her kit is really inexpensive, will have to see if we can’t afford that in a week or two .. I am trying to do something for rewards and since this worked for your little one I so am thinking it may work for mine!!

    CONGRATS!!!

Congratties to you All! What adorable tykes you have. I know how you feel. Earlier this year my Princess gave up her paci, (we) took off the guardrails from her single bed, and she managed to get potty trained- all in a matter of a couple of months (after many months of coaxing from us, of course!). It was so wonderful and sad all at once. She’s getting to be such a big girl. I thought I’d have another one by now, but since that hasn’t happened I am totally wrapped up in all the little things happening. Good luck with whatever is next for your little ones.

    Hi Danielle,
Thanks for the tip and the very cute song. My twins are starting the process and I am looking forward to no more diapers.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  11. Aw, congrats! So cool! I am hoping we are getting there soon, but the first two boys trained at least a year past where we are now (over 3 hrs old) with my youngest. Sigh. Just so ready to be out of diapers!

Getting our daughter to potty train was easier than poop training. Potty training at 2 and the other at 4 years old. Lots of moms and dads I have talked to have childen with pooping issues. It’s definitely not uncommon. What worked for us? Being at a pool one day and my husband spending and hour in the bathroom with her crying. She eventually gave in and the rest is history. Potty training rewards charts helped us. She was very proud of filling up each one with stickers or stamps. If you need a free potty training chart for your son or daughter, I have a really cute one with a yellow bear on it on my webstore. Just download and print. Good luck with toilet training!
