Thank you

Thank you for expressing your opinions so freely about our family’s stolen picture.

I am grateful you have been comfortable enough to tell me you are furious, you are outraged, you are amazed by the ’small world’ aspect of the story, you think it is crazy/funny/cool - or even that it has reinforced your desire to keep pictures of you and your family offline.

Many of you have contacted lawyers and ‘friends in the know’ on my behalf and offered suggestions on how I might handle this. I am grateful for your thoughts.

This has been an interesting week to say the VERY least.

I will tell you this - I had no idea something like this could happen, I am floored by the ‘what-are-the-chances’ scenario - I mean, really - a picture is stolen, ends up half way around the world on a store window - and I JUST SO HAPPEN to have a college friend who lives there (and it is someone I’m just recently back in touch with - thanks to Facebook).

I will, of course, keep you updated as this plays itself out.

This isn’t going away - I know that.

  1. Okay, I’ve gotta say, I never woulda thunk it! Yeah THUNK! I mean, I know ppl put their name on their pics so that other won’t lose them online, BUT ON A GROCERY STORE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY??? WOW!

I know! It has been so crazy! What are the chances that it would be used like that? And better yet that it would be seen by someone I know!

  3. I think your story is fascinating! I’ve never been one to worry about the pictures I post online. I have a Flickr account and a blog and I post my photos. If someone uses them for something, which I can’t really stop if I’m posting them, well, whatever. Chances are I’ll never know. But you found out, and in a really cool way. This story actually makes my heart smile. what a cool rush that must have been for the friend who spotted the picture. They probably enjoyed a small trip down memory lane as they decided how to tell you what they saw.

    Your family is adorable!

I don’t understand what the big deal is. I’d be flattered if someone thought my family beautiful enough to use on an advertisement. I might even decide to take a trip to see it and laugh with the store owner about the irony. I certainly wouldn’t be seeing a lawyer or anything like that.

Maybe you should have your own TV Show.
Maybe call it A Great Family
    Good Luck

Hi, Danielle just wanted to give a little advice, there is a html code that you or whom ever created your site, can incorporated into the the source code of the site to disable all right clicking and copying. This will stop any future attempts to copy or save any pictures off of your site. If you would like the html code just let me know via email and i will be than happy to send it to you or post in on here.

About your picture…wow, my first thought when I saw it on the front page of Yahoo! was well, they look like the typical, healthy, good looking European family! Although it was ethically wrong for someone to “borrow” your photo for that ad, I would be kind of flattered….they wouldn’t have taken it and used it unless you guys weren’t the “model” looking family! Enjoy the fame :)

  8. katie says:

I really don’t see why this would outrage people. I personally would be flattered.

  9. Kim says:

You do have a beautiful family… apparently beautiful enough to be in advertising.

I think its amazing that you found out about the ad the way you did, and flattering that the store owner thought the picture had to be photoshopped (because the picture was so perfect) Just wow.

The anti right click code above works against most people who just right-click-save images, however in all honesty a determined person can get around it fairly easily. Just go on being you… you’re obviously doing something right.
