Laughing all the way

Three years ago today, I laughed Cooper out.

Meaning – I was in labor, my doctor made me laugh after one push and Coop came flying out – past his shoulders.

So, my Doctor looked at me and said, “Pull him out!”

(Picture me AGHAST!) “No, you pull him out – that is YOUR job!”

“Danielle. Seriously.  PULL. HIM. OUT.  NOW!”

And so I did…..

And he has been making me smile ever since.

My small dude came out with blond hair and still has it!  He has been a little man child since the first moment I held him – teeth at 3 months, crawled at 5 months, WALKED (with NO help) at 7 months and has been speaking in full sentences for over a year.

He is a blond, blue eyed, devlish little guy – and he breaks my heart a little every day.

He is a lover, a destructible, his sister’s favorite, his daddy’s dream and my sweet little guy.

Every day he spontaneously says, “Mommy???”  pause “I love you”. Every night he begs for more ‘Kishes and hugs!!”

So, this is my 3rd birthday note to my buddy.

coopsmallDear Coop (Coopy, Small Dude, Handsome, Diggity),

I have loved you forever.  I will love you forever.

I have only had three short years with you – and yet, I know you are such a special little guy.  You were laughed into this world – and that has shaped your personality.  You are social – an entertainer just like your daddy.

You wake me every morning with a ball, bat and glove in your arms, “Mommy, you pway baseball?”  And the expectant look on your face almost makes me cry – you want that play time so badly.  Baseball is your daddy’s dream and you are fulfilling it in ways large and small.

My dream was for you to be a lover – and you are.  I can never get enough of your hugs and kishes.

You know how to make me laugh, you are protective of your sister, you are sweet natured and tough.  It is my true joy to be by your side as you grow.  Just try not to do it too fast.

I love you, my buddy.

Love, Mommy

P.S. You keep working on your swing! I think Daddy has you pegged for the 2024 draft!

Beautifully written…totally made me tear up. Not sure if that’s the PMS but pretty sure it’s just from the love you have for your kids.

Coop is great because he has an ordinary mommy doing extraordinary things!

    Happy birthday, Cooper Doo!
Jackson took one of his photo album books in the car with him today. He pulled out Cooper’s photo from last year’s b’day and was talking to it. I told him today is Cooper’s b’day and for the whole ride to the park and home, he kept telling Cooper’s photo, “Happy bir-day!”
So we’ve been thinking of the little man all day. I hope it’s a great 3rd birthday for him and all of you!

What a cute kid! Isn’t it great to look back on the years! My youngest daughter will be three in September. She is such a stinker and thinks she is so funny (we thinks so to).

I hope Cooper had a great birthday. I think it is so awesome that your doctor let you pull Coop out, that is pretty neat. My doctor told me to reach down to feel Jackson’s head, but to be able to pull him out, Wow!

We had three daughters and I kept saying to myself, “You know, it will be just fine if we never have a boy.” And THEN…we had our first boy. Oh, my my. Boys are something else altogether, and hold a mommy’s heart in such a different way than little girls. Yay for cute, mushy, lovey boys, and Happy Birthday to your little man!

Oh my gosh- that newborn picture is adorable!! My doc TRIED to get me to laugh DS out, but I think it’s because his HR was dropping (which I was unaware of) and she was trying to lighten the mood!

No problem about posting that. My husband is always worried about those kinds of things, but then again we can’t all live in a cave, right? :)

OK FIRST Happy Birthday Cooper!! You are only a couple months older than my Aedan.

Second: You are the only person I have seen THAT beautiful after giving birth!! So cute!

What are you doing for Mr Cooper’s 3rd birthday? Anything exciting & fun?

Such a sweet post!!!! He looks like such a precious boy!

  • Jeannnie

    What a beautiful little boy.

He reminds me of our great grandson, with his beautiful smile, brilliant blue eyes and gorgeous blond hair. Of course, our little guys hair has turned brown in the last year or so, he will be six in Dec., but he is the most precious, absorbant little sponge we have seen.

Your little guy will be a potential Little League player, and right on to the top. When inspired at that age, it doesn’t seem to go away.

I love your site, your sense of humour, and yes, I did get here because of the family photo that was a big story line in one of the local papers. How strange but how proud you must be that someone in another country picked your family photo out of millions of photo’s on the internet to grace the windows of his business. And stranger yet that one of your friends found it there. A delightful story to be told for years to come.

that is one beautiful baby! soooo darling, so kissable.

Your post was very sweet and touching. You made me laugh and cry and reminded me of the bygone days when my girls were small, cute and oh so loving. They’ve grown up a bit and have become, cuter and even more loving. I am now a grandmother to a little boy named Tristan and you’re right – boys ARE different!

Wow! I don’t cry very easily, but this just got to me. Your blog, particularly this one, are awesome! Your a great mom, and I love your unique way of putting your world as a mom and the world in general into perspective. I have my own 3 sweet little blessings, and I have similar thoughts; however I could never put them into words as eloquently as you. Keep on writing. We enjoy it and one day when your babies are older, they will have a piece of your heart in these blogs to literally touch when they want. Thanks for sharing… I’ll be back to read more…. ;)

Gorgeous kids and family. I saw the post about the pic on yahoo. I feel sad that people left you nasty comments- I think its a neat funny story. As I have learned in life- the only thing you can control is your own reaction to those around you. So, don’t react to that- don’t let it bug you- enjoy the fun little story you can tell your kids all about. I think you are gorgeous inside and out and I’ve only read a few of your posts. Have fun!

Laughing all the way made me cry. What a wonderful tribute to a beautiful little boy. Hope he had the best birthday yet.

And they do grow up too fast. My beautiful daughter and handsome son are now 31 and 21, and my daughter is giving me my first grandchild in September. Can’t wait to go through it again.

Your words are as beautiful as your family is. I have always said I don’t just love my children, I am IN love with my children and I can tell you feel the same way. I have never met another Mom who was able to express it so beautifully as you have. Just remember when someone is negative toward you or those that you love, it is because they want something you have and they just don’t have the balls to admit it! BTW your right, your Husband is HOT!

  • Ari

that was beautiful! …As a mother of a young son I can totally feel the love! you have inspired me to do the same thing for my son and write him a little something. Thank you for my smile of the day

  • jody

He is too cute!! What a precious little guy. You are beautiful both inside and out and have a beautiful family.! God Bless you all.

OMGosh This post made me grin… I have a similar birthing story for my littlest Makenna who is now 7 (Time flies.. enjoy every moment). I swear I’m going to get smacked one day because I love telling her birth story.. the image of my doctor gearing up for a SUDDEN delivery with her hands like a baseball catcher telling me i was going to shoot her out if i didn’t stop laughing.. it only made me laugh more. Your little Coop is absolutely adorable. It’s nice to hear from someone with a similar experience. :o )

I saw your story on yahoo’s homepage and read it. WOW! is all i can say. that your family photo was used as an ad in Prauge! so at the bottom was the link to your blog, and when i read this post i have got to tell you, i cried!

the love you have for your beautiful son is soo powerful! you are so blessed to have a happy, healthy family–i’m only 20 years old and i hope to one day have what you have found.
Good luck to you and your family!
    God Bless!

I couldn’t help but to leave a comment on this post because it reminded me so much of my own birthing experience with my third (and last!) son, Toby. He was born to laughter, surrounded by my hubby, my best friend and her husband (he was behind a curtain). We were all having so much fun, talking and laughing that pushing Toby was a breeze – 2 pushes!! ANyways, I always look back fondly on that – and tell people that My Toby (who was a surprise pregnancy) was a joy, right from birth.

Aw…this guy is the cutest! Love your blog. Read your story on NPR. So sad people had to show you that side of humanity we’d like to avoid. You didn’t deserve that!!!!
    Sweet family!
