A Perfect Line Drive

I can’t help it.  I have to brag about my brother in law for a minute. 

Here’s the story.

Tim is a Junior Varsity Baseball Coach at a local high school.  He truly is the kind of coach every kid wants to play under.  Yesterday’s GAME (not practice) is an example.

There is a player on the team who is physically disabled.  His name is Steve. Walking is difficult for him - his knees turn inward making it close to impossible for him to run.  He can’t play the outfield because fielding the ball is a specific challenge.

During the away game yesterday, Tim sent Steve out to bat - giving the kid a chance he had always wanted. 

STEVE HIT A PERFECT LINE DRIVE TO RIGHT FIELD.

Tim crossed his fingers and prayed Steve would make it to first base.

With what can only be described as pure will power and inner strength, Steve hustled his way to first base, arriving safely before the ball.

At the time, Tim was on the field as the third base coach.  As he looked at the opposing team’s bench, the other coach mouthed, “That was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.”

A pinch runner was put in for Steve, and he got high fives all the way back to the bench.

After the game, Steve told Tim that was the first time he had ever hit the ball, ‘in a real game’.

Tim’s team officially lost the game, but you know as well as I do, they really won.

P.S. Tim is 29 years old, 6 foot 2, blond hair, blue eyes, and single (he will kill me for this, but my mother in law, well, she will love it!)
